About Us

About Us Photo 1 - large I am lucky enough to live in a place where, for a fee, I can get 3-4 channels of Japanese TV. Today I was watching a program on NHK, that had a story that was about current technology in Japan, and of course I was interested. The story was about "Short Stories". So, you might ask, "How is that cool and interesting?". Well the new buzz in Japan is reading short stories on your cell phone. "Keitai Shousetsu" (which translates into Keitai= Mobile Phone, and Shousetsu= short story). So basically it works as you expect it you log into a site and you read the short story.

You probably are wondering what's so cool about this. Well, if you have lived in a country where you have to ride the train, bus, or subway, then you might understand. Japanese people are on their Keitai's (mobile phones) their entire commute!! Texting, surfing, etc. Why not read a book while you are commuting to and from work.

The majority of Japanese internet surfing is done on cell phones. I have friends that don’t own computers but use their cell phones exclusively. We are talking about email, surfing, auctions, running businesses!! Is this a look into our future? I don't know for sure but it's fun to follow what other countries are doing with technology. End quote.

So why would this not work in SA? It will work. How? We start of by providing short story writers their very own mobile enabled web sites, which they can create and maintain themselves. Why another web site? Well it is not just another web site. This is a WAP site, designed to display technically correct on cell phones. More than 90% of normal conventional web sites can't display on a cell phone. If they do, it takes a while to download and navigation is difficult.

Keep in mind we have 40 million cell phone users in SA versus 4 million internet users. So the short story writer can reach more people. We are not always in front of our computers to read the short stories on internet. But we all have our cell phones with us. A cell phone user wants to read a short story, poetry or any creative writing while waiting in the doctors rooms, or while driving in a bus. it is also known as Interstitial reading.

The short story writer can maintain his own content in his own mobile site. Short stories can be written in normal text and then can be viewed and read by a cell phone user. Short stories can also be uploaded in pdf. or word format. These files can then be downloaded onto the cell phone users mobile to be opened and to be enjoyed by the reader. These files can also be forwarded to any email of choice, would the user or the short story writer for that matter, choose to do so.

What would be the advantage to the short story writer. poetry writer, or novelist? Exactly the same as a normal web site, except to be able to promote him/her self better by reaching more people and much cheaper to afford a mobile enabled web site. Just think about people in SA without internet access, who now then can access the short story writer’s work. Short story writers who owns his/her own mobile enabled web site, can also sell short stories online, on their own mobile enabled web site(wap site) thereby increasing their income possibilities. You can even go so far by selling advertisement space on your web site as well as on your cell phone. It also goes for recipe writers and publishers. There are at least four spaces occupied for advertisements on your wap pages. That income you charge for advertisement space is totally under your control and can reimburs your wap site contribution. You can also get sponsors to advertise on your very own mobile enabled web site. Now, if this is not a good deal for creative writers, nothing will.

Cell phone short story readers can ask questions to the short story writer. Having your own mobile enabled web site, will allow the short story writer to be interactive with his/her readers/followers, Short story writers can add a mobile enabled forum embedded into his/her mobile enabled web site, meaning his/her readers can discuss topics, post replies and communicate with each other via their cell phones. Interactivity on its best.

About Us Photo 2 - largeThe rest of this mobile enabled web site you reading now, will inform you further on the workings of the mobile enabled web site functionalities. The ideal solution for creative writers.

Don't forget to read a news letter in my newsletter/blog from the main menu.
