What is Blocking?
Blocking is done when you need finishing or rounding off. We work with the Artist while he/she is performing the song. This can generally only happen when he knows the lyrics and song VERY well, as we constantly interrupt with comments. This is excellent practice not only in consentration but in dealing with constructive critisism. Parents are required to sit in. We focus on Mic Technique, movement, using of your Tools.
What are Tools?
Tools are all the Goodies that we recieved to tell a story. Your voice is the obvious one. But you also have eyes, mouth, hair, body langguage etc. These are all Tools that help you Tell the Story.
Why are Parents required to sit in?
Blocking & Vocal Training is very hard work. It is important that the parent understand the effort that a young artist has to give. It also strenghtens the bond and the parent becomes a soundboard for the artist. He can then, with knowledge picked up through sitting in classes, look at the performance and give positive feedback that can be very helpfull.
Can I come for a blocking session if I have my own singing teacher?
Absolutely. Although we could offer advise on technique ,the focus of blocking is on the atmosphere that you create through your delivery. We work on finishing touches not the basics.
What is a Performing Artist?
It is a person that produces a show for an audience. It can be big or small, singing, dancing, or anything else that is entertaining.
Dear Ina, Marilda
I see that you offer a 5-day workshop. Can you please let me know when it starts and what the cost of the workshop is? I have never had any formal vocal training, and I think that your workshop seems to be a good start. I am, however, not sure if this is all that I need, and / or if I need any other specific ongoing training after the workshop.
I have recently been to an audition, but because I have never sang with a microphone before (and I had to sing with one at the audition), I totally messed up the audition. Therefore, I need to learn how to sing with a microphone. Could you teach me this as well please?
Thank you Lynn Ramjee
Dear Lynn, Thank you for your query. There are not many things so scary as to get on stage for an audition! I'm so sorrry you had a horrid experience!! The 5 day workshop is normally held twice a year. This year we have decided not to do an end year workshop as i'm getting married in December and ...well..you can just imagine!!! However, Please consider coming for vocal training. During these sessions we not only work on Vocals but also on Stage presence and mic techniques as required. Please contact Ina Wiegand at 082 887 4046 for an appointment with one of our teachers. Looking forward to helping you build your dream. Kind Regards Marilda
